HCCF Back-to-School Campaign is back for the second year in a row! 200 backpacks filled with school supplies are now available for HCDSB students in need, along with basic need items such as clothing and shoes.

Marc Clare, Executive Director of HCCF, acknowledges that “Back-to-school can be particularly challenging for struggling students and their families. There is a need for cool weather clothing, shoes, and outerwear that fits growing children, as well as school supplies for the classroom and at home that supports learning and immersive educational experiences.”

HCCF needs the community’s support to help students and families in need with their back-to-school experience and ensure that each student is starting the year on the right foot. This upcoming school year, the HCCF hopes to reach its goal is of providing 200 backpacks, stocked with school supplies, to students in need in Halton’s Catholic Community. On top of this, HCCF will be raising funds to support basic necessities such as clothing, shoes, food, and school experiences, not only for back-to-school but for the duration of the school year.

“There are few things more important than accessible education,” states Marvin Duarte, HCCF Board of Directors Chair. “With this partnership and the support of our Halton Catholic Community, we know we can make a significant difference to these students by helping to remove some of the financial burden of back-to-school and other basic necessity costs that can occur during the school year.”

To make this campaign possible, HCCF has once again partnered with Halton Catholic District School Board (HDCSB) Child & Youth Counsellors (CYCs) and other community leaders and volunteers. With their help, along with the support and generosity of the Halton community, HCDSB students in need will be prepared and encouraged for the school year ahead.

$10,000 DONATION MATCH ACHIEVED – THANK YOU TO OUR DONORS & TD HALTON COMMERCIAL BANKING CENTRE

The Back-to-School Campaign will began August 8^th and continues until September 12^th.  During this 5-week period, we are hoping to raise $15,000 from our Halton Catholic Community through both one-time and monthly donations. Thanks to the generosity of Oz Zafar, District Vice President at TD Halton Commercial Banking Centre, they will match $10,000 in donations. If we receive our goal of raising $15,000, the $10,000 donation match will create a grand total of $25,000 to help students in need head back to school and assist them throughout the school year.

“The inclusion of pledged monthly donations as part of the donor match is really big for us,” continues Mr. Clare. “It means that if a donor wishes to give $20 per month, for example, our matching donor will match the $240 annual total of the monthly pledges – making our fundraising objective more attainable and donations more manageable for our community members. We’re very appreciative of this generosity of TD Halton Commercial Banking Centre. It means a great deal to our students who will benefit from this combined generosity.”

HCCF Back To School Campaign Highlights:

• Make a donation from August 8 to September 12, 2022
• Goal to provide 200 student backpacks with school supplies

• Fundraising objective: $15,000 plus $10,000 TD Halton Commercial Banking Centre donation match = $25,000 potential
• In addition, aim to acquire 20 new monthly donors as a result of the campaign

In addition to this great Back-to-School opportunity, Martin McCarthy, Chairman at McCarthy Uniforms Inc, has made a generous personal donation of $25,000. This gift will go towards purchasing uniform vouchers from McCarthy Uniforms in order to help students with uniform requirements, further supporting students in need with their back-to-school expenses. The HCCF is grateful for the tremendous amount of support shown by the HCDSB, CYC’s, TD Halton Commercial Banking Centre, Martin McCarthy, and the Halton Catholic Community as a whole. Together we will ensure every student starts and ends their school year successfully.
